Immediately after Martin Luther King’s death a soon to be black power activist named Stokely Carmichael raged "when white America killed Dr. King, she declared war on us.” He told his followers, “Get your gun”. Riots erupted in more than 100 cities, Dozens of blacks were killed and thousands of officers of the National Guard were called to control the riots. According to eyewitnesses Washington D.C. looked like a battle and most other cities that had riots. Later that week Martin had a large funeral with his coffin taken down streets and shown to the world.
